Coromandel Gold Stamper Battery
Details
Hours: 10am to 3pm Thursday to Sunday
Our Engineering is Gold
Go for gold in Coromandel Town! Each guided tour (approximately 30 minutes) takes you inside the historic Gold Stamper Battery to see how quartz was crushed and refined using original machinery. Watch the century-old stamper in action, see the mini jaw crusher at work, and even help crush rock yourself.
After your tour, add to the experience with gold panning—learn the proper technique and discover how prospectors once recognised real gold in their pans.
Finish your visit with a stroll through the reserve, New Zealand’s largest working water wheel, and a climb to the lookout for sweeping views of the Coromandel landscape.

Cancellation Policy
We kindly request that guests arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled start time. Footwear is required inside the building, and an adult must supervise children at all times. For the safety of our visitors and staff, all guests will receive a short health and safety briefing before entering the stamper area. Visitors must follow the direction of our Crew at all times. Group numbers are limited, and tours or gold panning may be adjusted for operational reasons. Tours inside the stamper include demonstrations of our historic machinery. We aim to have all equipment running during each visit, but as with any heritage machinery, there may be occasions where maintenance or adjustments require us to pause operations—this is all part of the experience.
We understand plans can change. Bookings can be amended or cancelled up to 24 hours before your tour for a full refund. For cancellations within 24 hours, please contact us directly and we’ll work with you to amend your booking or provide a refund. If we don’t hear from you and you don’t attend, the booking is non-refundable.
As a small operation, there may be rare occasions where tours are delayed or cancelled due to weather, safety, or other unforeseen events. We’ll do our best to contact you promptly, and you can then reschedule or receive a refund.
